About Your Imaging Exam

Understanding what to expect before, during, and after your imaging exam helps you feel confident and prepared.

At Golden Gate Radiology, we want every patient to feel informed and at ease. Below you'll find general guidance on preparing for your exam and what to expect during common imaging procedures.

Preparing for Your Exam

Preparation varies depending on the type of imaging exam ordered by your physician. Please review the instructions specific to your exam type below, and contact us if you have any questions before your appointment.

  • Arrive 15 minutes early to complete any necessary paperwork.
  • Bring your physician's referral or order form and a valid photo ID.
  • Bring your insurance card and any prior imaging studies relevant to your exam.
  • Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. You may be asked to change into a gown.
  • Leave jewelry and metal accessories at home when possible.
  • Inform our staff of any allergies, implants, or medical devices before your exam.

What to Expect

MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)

Before Your Exam

Avoid wearing metal objects. Inform staff of any implants, pacemakers, or metal in your body. Some MRI exams require fasting — your physician will advise you.

During Your Exam

You will lie still inside a large cylindrical scanner. The exam is painless but can be noisy. Earplugs or headphones are provided. Most exams take 30–60 minutes.

After Your Exam

You may resume normal activities immediately. A radiologist will analyze your images and send a report to your physician, typically within 24–48 hours.
